Levi’s Japan has launched a marketing stunt for its Curve ID line in which visitors to its campaign website (primarily in Japanese but with English option) can send hip mails – or short email messages written with models’ butts.
Below is the campaign’s commercial with the models doing some hip ‘caligraphy’…

An old Japanese-Okinawan song, Shima Uta (島唄, lit. Island Song) by Japanese band The Boom in 1992, written by vocalist Kazufumi Miyazawa. Quite an epic…
The song is about a message from an islander who was separated with his/her love one. It’s inspired by World War II stories where Okinawans were trapped in the battle between the US and Japanese troops, which resulted in over 100,000 civilian deaths (many died of starving and suicide instead of direct assault).
The lyric itself is not as sad as the story behind, a mix of sadness and sweetness. Musical wise it’s a breakthrough with a fusion of traditional Okinawan music and modern pop elements; and it’s sung partly in Okinawan dialects. Many artists have covered the song, including a few in other languages.

Chinese MV of Love by Taiwanese singer Hebe Tian from pop group S.H.E. The song is the first promotional track from the singer’s debut solo album To Hebe…
Sophisticated stuff. Not my cup of tea to be frank, but I like the fact that she’s trying something different from the usual S.H.E stuff.

Japanese music video for Genie by Korean pop group Girls’ Generation. Identical choreo and similar concept with the Korean version, sexy legs, decent video…
I’m not sure if I’m stereotyped with the Korean version, but it sounds kinda odd to be frank. Out of all the K-pop groups that advanced to Japan recently, only Kara’s Mister sounds naturally like a Japanese song imo.
Genie will be officially released next month. If all those polls and surveys are trustworthy the girls should have a good chance to top the Japanese charts – the Oricon in particular – which would be a first for Korean female pop groups.

Music video of Hello Again, Old Places (Hello, Again ~昔からある場所~) by New York based Japanese singer JUJU, a cover of My Little Lover’s 1995 hit but with a totally different approach. Nice song with a tear jerking storyline…
The song is used for Sony Alpha camera’s recent commercial series; this particular MV is arguably their most successful viral marketing for the new NEX model.

Kolbasti (Kolbastı, lit. caught red-handed by the police) is a Turkish dance created in the 1930s. It’s still popular these days especially during weddings and parties…
I first learnt about this dance via a news in New Zealand where a Turkish man was accused of beating his wife when they were actually performing the traditional dance (caught red handed indeed lol) which involved moves that resemble punches, kicks, slaps and choking (as claimed by the defendant).
Judging from the video he might have a valid point of argument (1:00-1:20 for example), though I haven’t noticed any online clips that reached the extremity of ‘punching’ or ‘choking’ yet. Regardless, it’s one fun dance.
